People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) flagbearer for Nakawa Division West, Ivan Bwowe, has faulted the Electoral Commission (EC) for maintaining the Kampala Returning Officer’s decision to approve the nomination of candidates who applied under Nakawa West to contest in Nakawa Division West.
In a statement posted on his social media platforms, Bwowe said he was encouraged that the EC recognises Nakawa Division West as the properly gazetted constituency.
However, he criticised the Commission for what he described as relying on “non-legal considerations” to determine the matter.
“The EC venturing into non-legal considerations as a basis to dismiss a legal matter is ridiculous. I call it to higher standards,” he said.
Bwowe added that his legal team would meet to evaluate the decision and explore remaining legal options. He assured supporters that what he termed the pursuit of electoral justice would continue.
“We shall inform you about our next course of action… The struggle continues,” he noted.
The petition arose from concerns about the legality of processing nominations under a constituency name that differs from the one officially gazetted.
Leader of the Opposition and Nakawa West incumbent MP Joel Ssenyonyi welcomed the EC’s decision, saying: “The petition against me and the other candidates in Nakawa West has been dismissed for lack of merit. The PFF candidate… should simply go on ground and face the voters—shortcuts will not work for him!”
NRM flagbearer Anderson Burora also praised the ruling, describing the petition’s dismissal as justified.
